1 Light Element, Agleam (G-Guardian)

Notes:-

  • At first, you may be wondering why is Asura Kaiser in this deck, of all things? Well, because in the competitive scene, there were players who would play Grade 1 rush decks. Asura Kaiser is kind of my answer as a Nova Grappler player to combat that. While I don’t have the most ideal number of Grade 3s to trigger his skill, it has proven effective enough to scare those players who chose to play that way competitively. On the off-chance that I am up against decks that do not play Grade-lock, the Asura Kaiser stride will make sure I am not without an option while playing anything other than the ace Vanguard, Victor.
  • This deck is my personal build that combines the best of G-BT01 and G-BT06 units. It has the potential to kill my opponent on my first Stride. If the right cards come into play, such as Sazanda and Arbarail/Cool Hank, with enough Counterblasts, I can (no pun intended) rush my opponent to defeat and force him into a undesirable position.
  • While most players frown upon Danshark, he provides an on-hit threat that, when paired with the power that Victor gives, can force your opponent to drop more precious guards or lose their precious units and damage advantage. I’ve tried builds with and without it, and I found that however small, on-hit threat with a lot of power behind it can be quite significant.
  • But Counterblasts can get scarce, even with Clay-doll Mechanics, Lady Cyclones and Starlight Hedgehogs. I actually played without Clay-doll Mechanic to train and learn how to use my Counterblasts effectively. On top of that, considering how underwhelming Bustered is as a Stride, sometimes I would forgo using his skill to stand another unit, just to save my Counterblasts. Meteokaiser, Victor is always a good stride for when you want to save or are out of Counterblasts to use.
  • Speaking on Starlight Hedgehog, draw power for Victor is quite weak, even with Starlight Hedgehog in the deck. You still need to draw the card out to even use its ability to draw, which is why, at least for me, I continue to play Draw Triggers, rather than more Critical Triggers. Sure, with the amount of Standing power, I can dodge my Stand Triggers, but their utility is too useful to let go. Hopefully the boosts coming to Nova Grappler in February will provide something good for the deck.
  • The one Twin Blader and lack of 2 Victoplasmas is credited to one reason. I don’t own anymore copies of Victoplasma or Lady Cyclone, and I’m too lazy to find it.
  • I am planning to change my First Vanguard to Extreme Battler, Runbhol instead of Kabutron. Kabutron is a great First Vanguard, offering another source of Standing to rear-guards, especially Sazanda. Sazanda hitting the magic number makes him much more threatening. But Runbhol might be more flexible in helping other units like Danshark maintain its magic number.

3 Beast Deity, Hatred Chaos
4 Beast Deity, Jackalord

Grade 3s:-
4 Beast Deity, Ethics Buster
4 Strongest Beast Deity, Ethics Buster Extreme

Strides and G Guardians:-
2 Meteokaiser, Tribrut
4 Meteokaiser, Vic-Ten
2 Meteokaiser, Victoplasma
4 Ultimate Beast Deity, Ethics Buster Catastrophe
4 Righteous Superhuman, Blue Prison (G-Guardian)

Notes:-

  • Believe it or not, this is actually what I would consider a pretty common Beast Deity build, because most of the cards from the older sets remain. There weren’t that many boosts given for Beast Deities except for a handful of newer cards, so there really isn’t much to say about it. All I can say is that cards like Beast Deity, Golden Anglet and Beast Deity, Desert Gator could be switched out for better cards like Dragotwist and Jackalord and so on.
  • Horned Hulk is a rather interesting card, but his skill is a little costly. You have to rest him in order to give 5000 Power to another unit. Considering where you put him on the field, you either lose a viable 7000 Power booster or lose an extra attack. I understand that with Beasty Deity, there exists a very high chance of standing your rear-guards, but I digress.
  • Dragotwist is a good alternative to Tribrut and works very well here as you’re able to use his skill to retire one of your opponent’s rear-guards with equal or lower Power than him. The only drawback is that he does not get extra power when standing, but with a deck that focuses a lot on standing, it makes almost no significant difference.
  • With standing being the main focus here, Ethics Buster Extreme is the main Vanguard to ride to, of course. Even though Ethics Buster’s Break Ride skill only works best with Ethics Buster Reverse, there isn’t really any other Grade 3s to put in with Extreme. At the very least, having the extra permanent 2000 Power from Extreme’s skill by having Ethics Buster in the soul can be helpful against low power attacking units.
  • In order to maximise the standing potential, playing 12 stands or even 16 stands is common. However, I only play 8 stands and 4 criticals because having extra Criticals against my opponent will help against those that can take the multiple attacks.
  • Ethics Buster Catastrophe is a very much needed stride for Beast Deities, giving the same skill as Ethics Buster Extreme, as well as 3000 Power to the rear-guard that stood if you have 2 or more Ethics Buster Catastrophe in the G Zone. Not only that, you get to check one extra card compared to just having Ethics Buster Extreme, which greatly increases your chances to stand an extra rear-guard. Couple that with Max Beat and Riot Horn, all your rear-guards will stand again, ready for another barrage.

2 Meteokaiser, Victoplasma
1 Meteokaiser, Vic-Ten

Meteokaiser, Bustered
4 Righteous Superhuman, Blue Prison

Notes:-

  • The Rush mechanic, I find, is meant to give some limits to the Nova Grapplers, given the amount of power Sazanda can get (The max power I got for Sazanda was 51k). Nevertheless, it is a strong mechanic, and learning how to use it to its fullest is very rewarding
  • This deck is styled around Victor’s stand ability to get the ball rolling. Your hardest hitter is Sazanda, so maxing him as much as you can is key. Master Kungfu is a good alternative. But Victor can only do so much himself. Supporting him is Cool Hank, Arbarail and Kabutron. They make sure that you get that burst of power needed to knock your opponent down to the playmat.
  • But of course, it comes with a heavy use of Counterblasts to get everything standing. Counterchargers like Lady Cyclone and Storm are key helpers. I chose Storm over Babyface, Narcissus mainly because I’m not limited by Rush to get my Countercharge. In addition, if Sazanda isn’t available, nothing places on hit threat like Storm does. Especially if your opponent is conscious about letting you have counterblasts available to use for the next turn. On top of that reason, another is that I don’t need that much soul to fuel for Arbarail. In the off-chance that I’m not Victor, Arbarail cannot be activated, so I value Cool Hank more.
    • True enough, there’s always Clay-doll Mechanic that can be introduced into the deck. There’s no harm in doing so, but I prefer to keep practicing how to control my Counterblasts. Knowing when to spend it and when to save it. It keeps my mind thinking, and maintains my focus on what I need to do the next turn. Clay-doll Mechanic helps, but even its uses run out.
  • Thanks to Tribrut, it makes Victor Kagero-like, which is something I can appreciate as someone who started out playing Vanguard with Kagero. If I can read my opponent right, soaking up damage to get counterblasts means you can heavily cripple your opponent and wreck up his key units. It’s a guaranteed retire on a rear-guard stand, and it can be used as long as you have units standing and Counterblasts to use. This links back to my previous note where Counterblasts are heavy, so you need to manage it well and not go overboard. You definitely want to make sure you have enough around to do what you need to do in the next turn. Always plan a turn ahead.
  • And you do need to plan a turn ahead, especially when you are planning to use Bustered’s skill. Without resorting to Snow Element, Blizza to flip one Bustered over, Bustered is the only G unit in Nova Grappler that can flip any G unit face up. So if you are looking to use Bustered’s full skill, you will need to introduce Blizza or hold out on your Counterblasts for his full skill to activate.
  • Overall, it’s about stacking power and hitting your enemies hard. With the addition of Malyaki, the power game can increase significantly more than before. And with units like Kumah the Destroyer, you will release your full dependency on Sazanda. Plan your strategies well and always run the numbers.

Notes:-

  • Within Crossbone Vanguards, I am most famous for my Avatar, Perfect Raizer. I’ve been playing him as my Ace Vanguard since it first came out in the first Comic Booster and (pun intended) perfected the way in how to use him. As I had to fizzle out Perfect Raizer out of my main Raizer deck, this deck is my “celebration” deck to commemorate the unit I most identified with in all of Vanguard.
  • Perfect Raizer as the main vanguard grants you the following. +3000 power for every Raizer in the soul and +1 critical when you have 4 or more Raizers in the soul. The power down from a lack of other Raizer units should only worry you unless you can defend yourself well, and the units I have in this deck follows this idea of a power centric deck. Nothing is more straightforward than a 31k Perfect Raizer (with Carvingraizer boost) coming at you with stride-like power and double critical.
  • This deck comes with a few flaws, which you will need to work around. Its biggest flaw is the hand size as well as the calling power. Because you need to place down one extra unit in your hand to be able to fully power-up on ride to Perfect Raizer, your hand suffers quite a bit. Katanraizer and Draw Triggers do help, but they do need to work, and the more non-Raizer units there are, the less effective Perfect Raizer will be!
  • Against any deck that won’t disrupt your field is a small breather for you, but in this era of Vanguard, with the G Guardians and everyone used to guarding 25000 shields for strides, that edge that can instill a bit of fear in your opponent becomes less significant.
  • Marineraizer AA is a good sub for Perfect Raizer. While you lose the threat that Perfect Raizer has, that threat is nothing if you can’t get that critical early in the game. With Marineraizer as a first ride, you can get the 4 souls you need along with Battleraizer (if you did not send him back to the deck), your G1 and G2 Raizers. If you happen to ride up to a non-Raizer (say Twin Blader), Marineraizer HT will be your 4th when you go into Legion.
  • Unless you know you can take him out, sometimes it is better to keep your field than lose it to increase Perfect Raizer’s power. It’s very risky to do so, and 9 out of 10 times, it’s not worth the risk. All that power and critical means nothing to two words. “Pee Gee” or “No Guard”. Like a nuclear weapon, the decision to go to Perfect Raizer and sacrifice your field to defeat your opponent, but the victory is sweet, if you do knock that fist into his face into his face. (I’m looking at your, Sanctuary Guard Regalie!)
  • Why it has never been conceived yet, I have no idea. But there needs to be a Raizer stride, like right now.
